The first CleanScrape belt cleaner at Freeport Indonesia is installed at conveyor GRS-71, is one of the most challenging conveyor belt at upper oreflow. GRS71 coming out from underground feeding SAG stockpile, is an 84” fabric belt travelling at 3.8 m/s carrying 10,000 t/h copper ore. The belt has longitudinal cover rubber damages/scratches and some section of the rubber lagging has been worn-out. But CleanScrape belt cleaner work so well that it has been able to remove almost 95% of carryback, leaving small of carryback to be cleaned by an Orion secondary cleaner.
Working Principal :
A series of overlapping tungsten tips provide the scraping effect of the cleaner and are interconnected by steel componentry and moulded into a flexible FRAS approved rubber blade. The blade is held in-place and tensioned through a set of stainless steel ropes running lengthwise through the blade and are attached to a mechanical spring tensioning system located on both sides of the conveyor chute/cheek plates. The mechanical spring tensioners provide a consistent and continuous force on the blade and due to the blade’s diagonal directional cleaning, only very little force is required to achieve an excellent cleaning effect.
Unlike conventional belt cleaners that are mounted at a 90° angle to the belt, CleanScrape Cleaner is installed diagonally across the pulley that conforms to the pulley’s shape. Due to this unique design the cleaner still performing well on uneven belt surface especially at GRS71 where some portion of the lagging have been completely worn out.
CleanScrape Cleaners are available in four different carbide metal grades to suit characteristic of materials, one of which is carbide developed for use on mechanically spliced belts. The supporting components of the assembly can be specified in regular steel or in stainless for specialized applications.
All of the CleanScrape Cleaner designs are certified by ATEX and can be used in underground mining.
