We’re using the Dremel 4000 with an Aluminum Oxide Grinding Stone #952. This project can also be completed using any Dremel Rotary tool.
After you’ve identified which part of the mechanism is sticking, you can run the tool at a mid to high speed and slowly grind away the obstruction, being careful to always move in clockwise direction. Make sure to let the speed of the tool do the work for you. After grinding away the material, check to see if the dead bolt closes and holds properly.
Here’s some additional thoughts on grinding a sticking deadbolt. Apply chalk or black marker to the strike plate where the bolt is hitting to guide your grinding. This way you’ll know when your grind enough material off. As with all projects, orient your body away from the sparks and use safety glasses.
